DragonCon 2005

Another epic year. That was the first time I met Michelle.  I believe I also met Amber, Emily, Jen and Rob for the first time, and  J-9 and I were just getting to know each other.  Good times.

Also, I was a huge dork and got a pic with Adam Baldwin in my Jayne hat.

Also, I met Apollo 12 astronaut Dick Gordon. It was a case of life imitating art, ie The Simpsons.   On the Simpsons, Neil Armstrong was at a sci-fi convention. His handler shouts, "People, this man's actually been in space!!" And someone else says, "Nobody cares!"  It was like that. A guy who'd actually been to the moon (ok, he didn't actually walk on it), and no autograph line.  I'd already met Al Bean, so it was great to meet his crewmate. Apollo 12 has always been my favorite Apollo mission. (Yes, I have a favorite.) He probably had no idea what to make of my hat.

Star Wars Celebration II and III (2002 and 2005)

I also apparently didn't take many at CIII either, but that might have been because I was walking around in a Benedryl-induced stupor and was suffering from a lack of sleep.

I did, however, meet a Lando.  Oh, and my Leia Bespin and Picnic costumes was done! Actually, I remember frantic-ly gluing sequins to that picnic skirt, trying to get the costume done. Even my husband helped. And then I don't think I wore it much.  That's how it goes I guess.

Also, by this time, the lovely  SisterSola had started going to Cons with our group - another person I'm so glad to still be friends with!

Surlygirlie also had a Bespin costume with amazing embroidery, and she generously shared her embroidery pattern with me.  I wouldn't have finished mine without her!

12th Night 2005

Proving that Jenny-Rose has always been a lovely hostess, is the 12th Night party from 2005.   The pictures don't do the decor justice. :-) Also someone's eyes were closed in pretty much every picture, sorry. :-(

Firefly Jayne hat

Ok, I didn't actually make this one. My mom did.  But that's screen accurate, right, because Jayne's mom made his?  Right?

Anyway, I love how it turned out, and Adam Baldwin himself called it a "very fine hat".

Firefly Kaylee costume from the pilot episode

I put this one together for DragonCon 2005. My goal was really to do the least amount of sewing possible, so this isn't screen accurate, though I did (belatedly) get a screen accurate bear patch for the leg. I have it in some pics and not in others. I did paint the parasol. Backwards.  I also made my husband a Wash costume. Again, not screen accurate.

Padme Episode III Dressing Gown

This dressing gown was made because I found a good fabric match - a blue (with a touch of purple) poodle sweater knit from fabric.com. The trim was custom made by Suomynona Couture, and is still available if anyone is interested. It is nearly an exact match to the real trim. I hand-beaded the tassels for the front, and the smaller tassels for the wrists and shoulder. The robe also has beaded/sequined accents at wrist and shoulder. I made the lace underdress from poly lace found on ebay - it is lined with white silk satin. I made this in 2005, but never really wore it.  It's kind of warm. I don't love the underdress, but I actually do love the robe.

Padme Picnic

This costume was made for Celebration III in 2005 - it took me about 5 months to make. The corset is hand-embroidered. The shawl, formerly a Walmart curtain (and a very close match to the original fabric) was hand-dyed, and edged by machine, with fabric paint details. The circle skirt and blouse are made from silk chiffon overlayed on sueded silk charmeuse. Vines were machine embroidered on both, and nearly 3200 4-petaled flower sequins were hand glued onto the vines. (The sequins were too hard to sew through - they would break too easily). The headband is made from the exact ribbon used for the movie (though in a slightly different shade of green). Two pieces of the ribbon were sewn together, and roses cut out of the shawl fabric and sewn onto the headband. The bun covers for the hair were croched by Lady McSnood. The ribbons for the arms and hair are silk satin - not an exact match - but we haven't found an exact ribbon match yet that is the right width. I made the brooch out of sculpy, and it has real gems in it!

Leia Bespin

This costume took about a year to complete. (Stared in April 2004 - Completed March 1, 2005.) The sleeveless jacket is made from silk chiffon that I hand-embroidered. It took me 9 months! The yoke is machine quilted, and also silk chiffon. The harem pants, tunic, and jacket lining are made primarily from polyester voile fabric that was purchased because it was the color I wanted! The shoes were custom dyed to match.
