Poe Funeral 2009

There was an extra event in 2009, Poe's funeral.  A bunch of us dressed in mourning (as best as we could, anyway) and attended, even getting to be in the processional.

DragonCon 2009

DragonCon 2009 was a fun year, but there wasn't much new costume-wise. The weekend was dominated by the Thrill the World event and hanging out with friends!

Costume Con 2009

Costume Con was so fun this year - we had a tea, and basically hung out in pretty costumes all weekend!

Lost Dharma jumpsuits

For DragonCon 2009, my friend Michelle and I made Dharma jumpsuits.

We figured they'd be an easy costume. The jumpsuits and patches were purchased, and my awesome friend, Scott, embroidered the pockets for us.  We wore them in 2010 too!

Beatle skirt

I love this Beatles logo quilt fabric. J-9 and I both made skirts out of it to wear at Abbey Road on the River. I used a simple circle skirt pattern.

Sgt Pepper Beatles costumes for The Return

As a favor to our friends, The Return, Jess, Janine and I agreed to help them out with some Sgt Pepper costumes. PLEASE don't ask - this is the only time we will do this. (If you need a costume, there is info on where to get one on the top of this page.) Jess did the sewing of the suits and Janine and I did the buying of trims, fabric, and accessories - and I made way too many macramed lanyards. Over the 4th of July 2009, I headed down to Atlanta to meet up with the girls so we could do a final fitting on the band and check out their concert, and then spend the next 24 hours sewing on trim.

There are a few things I'd like to fix here or there (I need to move John's medals down a stripe), but overall, I think they turned out well!

Victorian-esque Coat & Muff

I made this so I wouldn't freeze at the next Poe event!  (The lovely bonnet was made by Pamela Robles from http://www.victorianbonnets.com/ )

I liked this coat from this 1848 plate, but couldn't find any suitable black wool as it was the wrong season.

I did find some plaid wool at Joann, and I had some fake fur on hand. I used the Butterick Victorian coat pattern, sort of. Due to fabric constrictions, I didn't use their sleeve, just did a sort of T tunic sleeve, only with a seam across the shoulders. I lined it in the black dupioni and interlined it with a blanket-type fabric from my stash.

It's very voluminous, so maybe not flattering, and I have no illusions that it's period accurate, but I will be warm! (And yes, I know the string on the muff probably isn't period either.)

Gold Robe a la Francaise

Loren gave me this fabulous fabric. I had about 9 yards of it so I thought I could squeak a sacque back gown out of it. And I did - just barely! I used nearly every bit of fabric! This was my first gown of this kind and I was pretty happy with it. It was made in 2009 and I wore it to Costume Con that year!

Here is my inspiration for this gown - a extent gown from KCI's collection. I felt my fabric was really similar, if a different color.  I didn't have a lot of fabric, so I tried to do as much trim as I had fabric for.

18th century striped anglaise

I found this fabric on ebay and held onto it for a LONG time before using it!

I originally meant to copy this gown from the KCI collection.

 But then the gown felt plain so I added some trim. Here are a few pics from Costume Con 2009.  (I didn't have a cap yet to wear under the hat, but the hat is another one that came from The Patriot!)

For DragonCon 2010, I managed to get a pair of the screen accurate boots, but in brown. I used leather paint to make them black! I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.
