"Gothic" Navy and gold anglaise

This was an experimental project in a few ways. It's the first anglaise I've made without an en forreau back. Which for some reason was scary. But the pattern I came up with for the back worked for a little jacket I made, so I figured it would work here! I also tried to do a good job matching the pattern - fortunately I had enough fabric to do that. I didn't have a ton of fabric which was one reason I did the anglaise this way. I know this is not very 18th century fabric, but I think it's kind of fun (and I have very tenuous historical back-up of gold florals on solid backgrounds which I'll detail at the end of the post).  I'm just going to think of it as more of a movie 18th century costume a la Plunkett and Macleane or Sleepy Hollow than historical! :-)  I used vintage rhinestone buttons on it and the rest of my pleated trim from M&J. I just need to put in some hook and eyes and it's done! Here are some photos:

Pink Striped Linen Anglaise

Most of my gowns are fancy, and I don't have many that are more "every day". And that's ok, I'm not a re-enactor, I'm about swanning around in silk gowns with friends. :-)  But since my friends and I were going to Fort Fred in 2010, I did want something a little less "ball gown".  Once again, I used fabric that L gave me, a pink striped linen.  (She's given me the best fabric!)

Here I am wearing my Patriot hat, and a cap I bought on etsy.

Then I bought a new hat at Fort Fred! (I couldn't resist!)  And the fichu was made by the talented Bjarne/tailordrews.  I just tucked it into my gown to keep it on.

After Fort Fred, I trimmed the gown to make it a little less plain. I also made a striped petticoat to go with it.  At Fort Fred I just wore a plain white linen one.

I found this fabric on ebay and held onto it for a LONG time before using it!

I originally meant to copy this gown from the KCI collection.

 But then the gown felt plain so I added some trim. Here are a few pics from Costume Con 2009.  (I didn't have a cap yet to wear under the hat, but the hat is another one that came from The Patriot!)

18th century Green embroidered anglaise

I made this one on a whim because I had some pretty (non-period) dupioni changeable silk.  I started it on 2008, it sat for a while and I finished it in 2009, and then I retrimmed it later on and wore it to a tea in 2010! Hey, at least I redid my wig. I'm way happier with it.

18th century Indienne print gown

I did the bulk of the sewing of this project in a weekend - Loren gave me this beautiful linen (or linen-look?) fabric that very much resembles 18th century Indienne cotton. I used the pattern I developed for myself when I made the purple gown last year. I know it fits me, so it works well!

I made the back in en fourreau pleats. Because I like them! I made the petticoat out of an embroidered cotton Target curtain! I made the hat too, to resemble one in The Duchess.

Purple 18th Century Robe Anglaise

This is the first 18th century gown I made. It's out of a non-accurate dupioni, because I had it on hand, and it was my first gown and I didn't want to mess up expensive fabric.  I should really wear it again and get some better pictures.  I wore it at DragonCon 2007.

Sleepy Hollow Black & White Striped Gown

I've always loved this gown too.  I'm mostly happy with it, though I made some mistakes on the back of the gown and it tends to get a weird wrinkle. Also, though I love the stripe, the supplier came out with a charcoal and white after I already had used charcoal and cream. I could never find a true black and white silk.  I also need better photos of me in this one.
