Riversdale 12th Night

At the start at 2017, we went to the Riversdale 12th Night Ball. The food was delicious - all period recipes - and the chef made all kinds of pickled products, which were all delicious. The gown was new - a simple drawstring gown out of an ebay sari. Not sure the shiny material is as flattering - but the bullion embroidery on the fabric is pretty. :-) I was also wiped out by the time we got to this ball, so I wasn’t as into the dancing.

Poor Doug still only had the one vest. No time to sew a new one, though now he has a few - our friend Angela, to pay back a favor, went above and beyond with a new fancy embroidered vest, and a striped one. I’ve started a silver silk one, but haven’t finished it yet.

And of course - the important stuff - the food!

Also, Mac & Cheese with a 19th century recipe, roasted vegetables, assorted pickles, and savoy cake wiith peach brandy syrup and whipped cream for dessert.

Doug was randomly chosen as king of the ball!

This is what happened after Mike jokingly asked Gloria if she could look less dead inside. ha! Also, we didn’t purposely color coordinate - but it’s funny we are each wearing a solid contrasting color.

Riversdale Fancy Dress Ball

The lovely Riversdale House had a fancy dress regency ball in October, the weekend our friend Conley was in town, so we got tickets.

I didn’t have time to sew anything new, but since I did have a 1790s gown that was based on a fashion plate, I called it good enough!

Here’s the house:

Conley borrowed a drawstring gown: IMG_6066

Poor Doug needs another waistcoat and another coat, but I just haven’t had time to do anything about it. :-( At least he has different colored socks that we picked up at Fort Fred.

They had a picture frame so you could get your portrait. That was kind of fun!

Riversdale 12th Night Ball

A bunch of us went to the 12th Night Ball at Riversdale (which included supper) and it was as delightful as last year! I was going to make something new but I just wasn't able to get enough time for it. But I realized I had a drawstring dress with a purple sari with peacocks on it, that I had only worn once to a card party and didn't really have pictures of. So I wore that, a new necklace and fan by In the Long Run (https://www.etsy.com/shop/inthelongrun), my tiara by TheMillineress (https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheMillineress), my antique citrine earrings.

I also did make something new, a Georgian/Regency cloak - which I made using the Laughing Moon pattern. (http://www.lafnmoon.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=P135&CartID=1) I used non-period accurate dupioni that I had in the stash. I interlined it with a blanket fabric I had on had for warmth. And I didn't have a ton of the dupioni so I only used it to line the hood, and I used a dotted cotton to line the body of it.

I love seeing Riversdale all lit up! It was way warmer than last year, no snow/ice on the ground.

Riversdale Masked Ball

A bunch of us went to Riverdale House's masked ball last weekend. The best part is the was able to join us since the timing with her DC vacation worked out!

The ball was smaller than the 12th Night one and had light snacks rather than a full meal. It was really fun! That house is so pretty!

I wore my tiara made by Megan. (Etsy store here.) I got mine and Doug's masks on Amazon. They have a number of pretty laser cut masks.

Here are a few photos:

I really need to make my poor husband another vest and a slightly later coat. Just no time. Someday I will sew again. :-/
