Baltimore Regency Dinner

Last month, we joined a bunch of other friends for an evening in Baltimore. A subset of our group toured Fort McHenry and went on one of the tall ships. But we just had so much going on in October and I was exhausted. So we decided just to go into the city for dinner. Our friend Conley was in town too, so we dressed her up and carpooled up with Gloria to meet the others in Baltimore. They had hotel rooms overlooking Camden Yards, which was fun.

The food was ok. The appetizers (fried pickles! calamari!) were excellent though!

Riversdale House Regency Ball

While we've been to a bunch of balls at Gadsby's Tavern, we'd never been to one at Riversdale House before. We did take a tour there and had a picnic this summer - but this was our first chance to see what their balls were like. This one was a slightly belated Twelfth Night ball and it was so beautiful! Getting to see the house all lit up at night and decorated for Christmas was so cool. There was a light supper, which was delicious and used period recipes - and two sets of dancing. So many people had really great costumes too. Overall, the event was really cool and I would definitely go to one there again.

Doug came along. I actually bought most of his outfit because I didn't have the time or expertise for men's wear.

Gloria helped me out with a pattern she had for a late 18th century waistcoat (straight lower edge) that works for 1780s/90s. I made it out of green dupioni (not super period) from the stash. I used it because the coat I had bought him on etsy had a green lining so it matched perfectly! Thanks, Gloria, for the tutorial and all the help!



I bought drop-front breeches from this seller. Gloria has bought from them too for her husband and this seller is reliable and makes really nice breeches. Quality is good, fit as expected.

Gloria gave me an extra shirt she had that didn't fit her husband, though I really need to make a cravat for it. Oh well, next time.

I wore my black sari gown - it was sorta new since I wore something over it for the pumpkin tea.


Since I had the time (I spent the day finishing the waistcoat), I spent the day in curlers, with this result:

Regency Pumpkin Tea

More November catch-up - my Mom and I went to Stephanie's regency pumpkin tea and had a lovely time!



Wearing my new Robert Land shoes with American Duchess stockings, and a vintage petticoat I bought a while ago - glad I had it, it was cold!

Some project updates and new things....

I managed to finish another regency drawstring dress that I've had in mind for a while. I always like this dress, which dates to 1800 from the Museo del Traje.

I found a black sari on ebay, so I used this as inspiration. I had to applique some extra trim on the train - and as per usual I made it slightly too long in front.  But it's pretty and perhaps I'll wear it for the annual Pumpkin tea.  Forgive me chopping off my head, I didn't do my hair. These are just quick snaps.

I also managed to snag a pair of one of a kind Robert Land shoes - they have some beautiful stuff up right now,  practially none of it in my size.  But these stripey ones were and they're really gorgeous!

Next up, this Edwardian dress I got from my friend Julia before she moved.  I had to tailor it, but now it fits great! yay! Here are some quick mirror pics.
