Star Trek 2009 - Uhura

I thought I would do an individual post on my "Uhura" costume - in quotes because I don't remotely resemble Zoe Saldana, but because I like her outfit so much, I thought I would do an individual post on it.

Figuring once again that Anovos could do it way better than me, I bought their red NuTrek dress. https://anovos.com/star-trek-the-movie/womens-uniform-dresses It's really well made with a fitted inner layer that gives the dress structure. It makes it hard to go over the head a bit, but I like it having support, I think it's more flattering that way. These dresses are sized slightly smaller than the TOS Anovos dresses, as a warning, so check the sizing guide.

Apparently what Uhura wore in the film is most similar to the DKNY Dia boots, but with a side zip, not a back zip. The Rebel has the side zip but the wrong velcro flap. I was able to pick up a pair of the DKNY Dia boots on ebay, so put a watch up if you're looking for them.

See the discussion on boots here: http://starfleet1701st.yuku.com/topic/1212/ST-Women-s-Boots#.UXYPjIJAvx8

And their graphic comparing the boots below:

I also acquired a pair of Uhura's earrings.  From the first movie, she wore Alexis Bittar's lucite "Pod" earrings in red and silver. I have the silver ones.

And a few pics from DragonCon 2013:

Maddie's boho dress...

The TV show Nashville is one of my guilty pleasures. One of my fav things about it are the two girls (sisters in real life) who play the daughters of country singer Rayna James. In real life, the sisters actually do sing and play guitar and they're super talented. When they did this cover of the Lumineers' "Ho Hey" on the show, I totally fell in love. The song is awesome:

And though I'm not the same age/size of Maddie (played by Lennon Stella), I also loved her dress. And unlike a lot of shows that have characters with cool clothes, this dress is actually still available. I got one and love it!

It's available here:

Amy Pond

I haven't really tried to cosplay Amy Pond, mostly because I'm not tall or a redhead.  But I like some of her clothes and I've acquired a few pieces. And I'm on the hunt for a few more.

Here's her Night Terrors outfit, which I've always liked:

I have the Noa Noa West End Wool Dress (Mist Melange), a tank (not screen accurate, this one in Loganberry) to go under it,  and the Dr Martens Triumph 1914 Boots (Black), though I need to change from the ribbon to regular laces. Folks on the DW LJ comm did note that she  definitely uses the regular laces, and tucks them behind the tongue of her boots. I still need the Noa Noa Basic Vera Scarf in Rug, and grey Oasis Biker Jacket. And purple tights (Noa Noa Basic Tights in Persia.), though I think the screen accurate tights are definitely long gone.

Amy Pond Series 6 breakdown is here: http://dw-cosplay.livejournal.com/1496255.html

I also have the  American Apparel Dolman Sleeve Hoodie (Red) from The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone.  I need to find an appropriate skirt and grey tights and Chucks.

Amy's Dinosaurs on a Spaceship sweater appealed to me and I snapped it up right away, though I have no real intention of completing the outfit (which is just jeans and brogue shoes).  The sweater is a Reiss Chloe Stripe jumper in Ultra Marine.  I really love it - it's one of my favorite sweaters.

I would really love to find this Whistles Pineapple dress - and I'm toying with trying to make my own fabric. That's pretty low on the list though.

Pirates of the Caribbean - Elizabeth Swann gowns

I love this gown, but I don't know when I will get around to making it.  Many years ago M&J Trims had the screen accurate trim on sale, and I bought some (hopefully enough, since it wasn't cheap!).  So this is a placeholder to remind myself that I have it!

I also found screen accurate fabric for the "peach" gown worn at the end of the movie. It might be a slightly different colorway, but it's extremely close. I really need to get my act together on this one, I've wanted to make it for ages!

Costumes in Progress/Screen Accurate Finds

I have so many bits and pieces of things I've acquired in case I do a particular costume (and I come across a screen accurate item for it), and I feel like I'm almost losing track of what I have and what I need.  So I think I'm going to start a tag for these projects so I can keep better track of them!

Some of these things are also exercises in ebaying to find a particular piece, like in the case of some of the Doctor Who outfits. :-)

Here goes! I'm going to use the tag "screen accurate finds."

Oswin Oswald

This is the research I have on Oswin Oswald's costume from Doctor Who. I've moved it to a more permanent location: http://costumersguide.com/cr_oswin.shtml

Vintage Glee dress

Rachel has been wearing a lot of vintage on Glee this season. Though the show is kind of hit-or-miss for me, I've been enjoying seeing how the costume designer has dressed Rachel in a lot of 60s outfits.  When I saw her in this one:

I realized I had the same dress in my closet! I got it on Etsy a few years ago. Fun!

It's not a great pic, but here's my dress below:
