DragonCon 2006

DragonCon 2006 was just post my Europe trip.  I mean just.  I was still operating on another time zone and I wasn't sure I'd be awake for DragonCon.  I'd also left red seed beads across three countries (Germany, Italy, and Switzerland) trying desperately to finish my Jump dress in time.  (I did.)

I also made my Buttercup riding dress, finished my Violet costume which I spent a year on and then hated wearing, and I met Alan Tudyk (OMG).

Project LJ dress

In 2006 some of us on LJ did a Project Runway challenge where we had to make something out of 6 yards of unbleached 45" muslin. We were allowed to spend up to $15 on notions/dye/trim, and we got to use one freebie item out of our stash that had to be less than 1/8 of the final costume.

Ever After "Ruins" dress

This was one of my first costumes (post Jedi), and it wasn't very good. I redid the bodice in 2006.

Titanic Jump dress

I beaded all the trim for this as well as the vest and the circles on the skirt.  It took just over a month to do the beaded circles, and about 1.5 months to bead the vest. The completed costume weighs almost 6 lbs!  And the supplies for it cost a lot, so this might be my most expensive costume.  I'm mostly happy with this one, but I wish I'd made the vest a little shorter.  I made this for DragonCon  2006.

I also made a sort of basic Jack costume for my husband for Halloween. It's not screen accurate, though.

Lord of the Rings Arwen Dying (BR) Gown

This was the first Arwen costume I saw when the first movie images came out, and the last one I made! I used midnight blue silk velvet for the jumper, navy china silk for the underdress, and I hand-dyed silk velvet for the lower sleeves. The upper sleeves and the band on the jumper are made from a paisley fabric I found at Joanns. The trim is a bullion trim I bought on ebay from Suomynona Couture, who was kind enough to overdye it for me.

Princess Bride Buttercup Riding costume

A couple friends all made this costume for DragonCon 2006.  I actually am really happy with how this turned out, even though I probably should have used a linen.  I did do cartridge pleats at the cuffs, and for a simple costume, I'm happy with the details I got right. I've only worn it once, but I really should wear it again.  It's pretty comfy. I'd love better boots.

Empire Strikes Back Han Solo

This costume was made for my husband for Halloween 2006. I'd been wanting to try out Dawn Anderson Designs' Falcon Jacket pattern for ages, and I was really glad I did!
