A League of Their Own

Note (1/21/20): I have worn this costume multiple times! So as not to bury this making-of page, I have moved all pics of wearing the costumes to the "a league of their own pics" tag: http://costumersguide.blogspot.com/search/label/a%20league%20of%20their%20own%20pics

Here is how I put this one together:

hat: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0017QNADA/ref=pe_385040_30332200_TE_item

fabric: https://www.fabric.com/buy/eo-897/moda-bella-broadcloth-9900-26-pale-pink
(this was the perfect color, but probably should have been thicker.)

socks and belt: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008YG6B9Q/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (be sure not to order the maroon, it's really brown.) I need to try to modify the socks to have a white foot, haven't done that yet.

patches: My friend Laura was kind enough to embroider them for me with her embroidery machine. But you can sometimes find them on Etsy.  Like this seller. This one has the embroidery pattern.

pattern: I bought this one on Etsy and it worked really well. It's pretty accurate. If I did it again, I'd take out some of the blousiness in the lower back. But other than that, no complaints.  I also added a side zipper to be closer to the movie version.  https://www.etsy.com/listing/202210642/vintage-baseball-uniform-vintage-style?ref=listing-shop-header-0

shoes: My softball shoes, so I didn't buy them.

bloomers: I used this stuff for the bloomers and for the number on the back since they looked shiny to me and they looked like a darker red. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EAXFAJ4/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I used a modified harem pant pattern I had for my Bespin Leia pants.

And my mom did a little painting:

  1. Your outfit came out so cute! I wish I knew about that Etsy pattern last year! I made a baseball costume but I had to modify a Simplicity pattern. Here's a group of us. http://freshfrippery.com/2014/09/01/aagpbl-kenosha-comets-uniform-a-league-of-their-own-baseball-costume/

    1. Oh my gosh, you all look so cute! Thanks for the link! Good to have other blogs from people who have made these too!

I found the uniforms in the movie to be surprisingly short. I usually err on the side of too long, but this time I tried to make it shorter than I normally would have thought to do. I figure, the shorts are there, why not! My shorts were not super well constructed either. But who will know? ;-) Thanks again!

  2. There should be even more costumers with baseball uniforms later this year! I'm not sure if you're located in California, but in May the Greater Bay Area Costumer's Guild is planning to have a League of Their Own picnic!
