Jane Austen Ball

Ah, the August ball at Gadsbys. It was perhaps the hottest day of the year and despite AC, it was so so so hot. And after the ball, when going outside for air… no relief. 10pm and it was just as hot outside as in. Brutal day. We did our best to enjoy, but it was a tough one. As a result, there are only a few photos and we look terribly sweaty in all of them.

Jane Austen Ball

I went to the Jane Austen ball at Gadsbys Tavern in Alexandria, VA with some friends last night. It was SO fun!  I decided not to make something new, but get another wearing out of my open robe and sari gown, since I really like it but have only worn it once.  I finally did regency hair I'm happy with, but doing pin curls and using rollers, and I also wore my Georgian tiara comb.

Pumpkin Tea

This weekend I went to a Pumpkin tea hosted by and her mother. The food was awesome, the decorations were beautiful, and everyone looked amazing! Here are some photos!

Pumpkin Tea

I went to a regency Pumpkin tea yesterday and had a great time! I'll have a whole bunch of pics to be posted, probably tomorrow.

For now, here's what I wore!

Regency drawstring gown and open robe

I just finished a new gown. I started with the open robe. I wanted something new for a pumpkin tea I'll be going to in November. I had some striped silk taffeta in the stash (thanks, Loren!), so I whipped up a quick robe.

Then I remembered I had some red embroidered sari trim that I thought would match it, and it did! And I just barely had enough! So I trimmed the arms and hem. I used antique abalone buttons on the front. Then I remembered I had a sari that had embroidery in the same tones. So I decided to put together a drawstring dress. I really like how it looks together.

As usual I made the skirt too long for fear of making it too short. But that's ok. I had to cut out and sew on trim on the back hem to match. Here are some photos and a few fashion plates that have similar things going on (stripes in the same tone, and short sleeves).
