A League of Their Own

(this was the perfect color, but probably should have been thicker.)

patches: My friend Laura was kind enough to embroider them for me with her embroidery machine. But you can sometimes find them on Etsy.  Like this seller. This one has the embroidery pattern.

pattern: I bought this one on Etsy and it worked really well. It's pretty accurate. If I did it again, I'd take out some of the blousiness in the lower back. shoes: My softball shoes, so I didn't buy them.

bloomers: I used this stuff for the bloomers and for the number on the back since they looked shiny to me and they looked like a darker red. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EAXFAJ4/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I used a modified harem pant pattern I had for my Bespin Leia pants.

Marie Antoinette Strawberry gown

Here is my "secret" project that I've been plotting for a while. Every since Melly posted her version of the Strawberry fabric from MA, I've wanted to make this gown! (http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/1354899)  I splurged on cotton silk.  The blue trim and the blue velvet ribbon for the neck aren't the exact right shades of blue, but they were best I could come up with. The sleeve flounce net is vintage.

I tried a new sleeve pattern which was ok, but they kept riding up so my sleeves look weird in a bunch of the photos. But overall, I'm happy with how it turned out!  I also had to guess on the back since there are no pics of it - it's impossible to tell if it's quarter back or en fourreau.  In the end I went with quarter back because I thought it would take less fabric.

I went with MA's lunch look, with flowers in the hair, but I'd love to make the hat.  And those gloves she wears to church are amazing too.  My research page for this gown is here: http://costumersguide.com/ma12.shtml

Shakespeare in Love and other things...

I thought I would also repost my exhibit pictures from Disney's MGM (as it was then). On the line for the Great Movie Ride, there are costumes  on display.  I got wind that one of Viola's Shakespeare in Love gowns was there and I HAD to see it! It's not there anymore, sadly. But I'm glad I got the pics I did!  They also had a bunch of other costumes there (like Barbossa, the Lion/White Witch, and Narnia kids), as well as in the Backlot tour area.

S&S vest done!

I finally got around to doing the covered buttons to match the little vest from the movie. They were super easy using the little kit that came with the buttons I got on etsy. Way easier than trying to do them without the little kit!  (You can buy them here in lots of sizes: http://www.etsy.com/shop/cutiestuffs)

I added two buttons on the back too, just for fun and since I had extra.

I'm still not 100% happy with  vest, but that velvet was SO hard to work with! Oh well. (ETA: I did get a tip to line up the grain of the velvet with the neckline - so I will try that next time!)

Sense & Sensibility vest/body

Well, it is terribly far from perfect, but I've mostly finished the little velvet vest or body from Sense & Sensibility. I had both the silk lining and the silk velvet in my stash and they are a great color and matched each other! But I'd also blocked out from my Lord of the Rings days just how hard silk velvet is to work with. Blech. I'm not really happy with the wrinkles and pulls and though I tried to place my darts where the real ones are, they're not really in the right place. Oh well. I had the lace in my stash too - I actually colored the scallops with a Sharpie to imitate the real one.

It's also bag lined, which I so hate doing, especially with velvet.

The pattern was very loosely based on the same Sensibility pattern pieces.

But it's wearable, so we'll see how it looks in pics!

The only thing I have to add is the velvet covered buttons, but I'm waiting for a button blank kit to come in the mail.

The Young Victoria - blue gown

I also finally took pics of the Young Victoria gown I bought in LA.  It was actually one of my favorites in the film:

Sleepy Hollow Shirt

Last month I put this shirt that was in the movie Sleepy Hollow on layaway at Propstore.com!

I thought if my husband ever wanted (or if I wanted him) to go to an event, he'd have an 18th century shirt! Plus, Sleepy Hollow! I have one costume from it, the midwife's gown, and the construction is beautiful. I'm hoping this will be nice too.

Here's the description:

A white shirt worn in the 1999 Tim Burton and Johnny Depp movie Sleepy Hollow. This style of period garment was worn by many of the inhabitants of Sleepy Hollow, the small town haunted by tales and sighting of the Headless Horseman. It is made from cotton and has distinct bunching around the cuffs, shoulders and collar with interesting hoop buttons. It also comes with a very fine cotton neck scarf seen around the men’s necks in a traditional knot. There is no name or size marked inside and is a piece from the movie that sees very few costume pieces surface.

A hat from The Patriot

I bought this from an online propstore. (Screenused.com I think?) It's so pretty. The straw is really high quality and the ribbon decoration is beautiful too!

 

Star Trek (2009)

For DragonCon 2010, I managed to get a pair of the screen accurate boots, but in brown. I used leather paint to make them black! I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.

Ever After "Ruins" dress

This was one of my first costumes (post Jedi), and it wasn't very good. I redid the bodice in 2006.

Titanic Jump dress

I beaded all the trim for this as well as the vest and the circles on the skirt.  It took just over a month to do the beaded circles, and about 1.5 months to bead the vest. The completed costume weighs almost 6 lbs!  And the supplies for it cost a lot, so this might be my most expensive costume.  I'm mostly happy with this one, but I wish I'd made the vest a little shorter.  I made this for DragonCon  2006.

Lemony Snicket Violet Baudelaire costume

I spent like a year on this one and parts of it were constantly having to be redone. I'm still not happy with it. Oh well.

Sleepy Hollow Black & White Striped Gown

I've always loved this gown too.  I'm mostly happy with it, though I made some mistakes on the back of the gown and it tends to get a weird wrinkle. Also, though I love the stripe, the supplier came out with a charcoal and white after I already had used charcoal and cream. I could never find a true black and white silk.  I also need better photos of me in this one.

Guinevere's Blue Gown From King Arthur

I loved this gown on sight.  I like how mine looks on the form, but not on me. :-)

Lord of the Rings Eowyn Shieldmaiden Gown

I loved this costume right away and when I found the perfect crinkled jacquard silk for the skirt and sleeves, I knew I had to make it! The corset and vest are made of a brown suede fabric. I quilted the corset, and trimmed it and the vest with two different trims to give the effect of the embroidery. The corset was modified to be an over-the-bust corset, rather than an under-the-bust one like the real one. The undergown is made of china silk that has an embroidered and pintucked neckline. The lower sleeves and overskirt are made of the crinkled silk jacquard. The lower sleeves are gathered and tied with cord, and braided trim wraps around the upper sleeves.
