DragonCon 2008

DragonCon 2008 was about Sgt Pepper, we had so much fun with these costumes.  Also, the Holyhead Herpes Harpies group was epic.  We also did a Shrek Princess group.

Also epic was Alan chasing Nathan around on the rascal that he stole from someone.

SalonCon 2008

Kat, Loren, and I went to SalonCon, which was a steampunk sort of Con. It was pretty cool, and I enjoyed hanging out with the girls.  I don't have much in the way of Victorian or Steampunk, but I wore the two things I had that vaguely fit the period.  Kat and Loren both looked spectacular!

Poe 2008

In 2008, I went to the Poe birthday celebration in Baltimore for the first time, with a group of LJ friends, in 1840s costumes! It was so fun!

Beatles Sgt Pepper John Lennon

My friend J-9 and I decided to do Sgt Pepper costumes and so I did a lot of research on them.  We immediately claimed John and Paul. And then our friends Y and J got on board, and as it happened, their fav Beatles were still up for grabs, so it worked out really well!  We all made our own costumes.

(No, I don't sell or make custom Pepper outfits, but I know someone who does. Check out the info at the top of my research page: http://costumersguide.com/cr_pepper.shtml

Black "Poe" 1840s gown

My friends and I decided to attend an Edgar Allan Poe birthday event in Baltimore... in 1840s costumes.  I had some black watered silk from a fashionfabricsclub sale (at least, it was sold as silk!) and I decided to make a gown like this one from the Tasha Tudor collection:

This gown is SO pretty, I love it!  I'm pretty happy with how mine turned out, except that I wish I'd had enough fabric for another skirt panel, because my cartridge pleats are pretty thin looking.   I also have some bodice wrinkles I'd love to get rid of.   I wore this to a ton of Poe events, but I made this late 2007/early 2008.

1830s gown

This was my first foray into 1830s costume. I'm not sure it's my era.  I don't love the poofy sleeves and the silhouette. I wanted to base my dress on this one from the Tasha Tudor collection:

But my neckline was kind of wonky. And it was hard to keep the sleeves up. So, not my favorite look.  I don't think it's very flattering.

18th century Indienne print gown

I did the bulk of the sewing of this project in a weekend - Loren gave me this beautiful linen (or linen-look?) fabric that very much resembles 18th century Indienne cotton. I used the pattern I developed for myself when I made the purple gown last year. I know it fits me, so it works well!

I made the back in en fourreau pleats. Because I like them! I made the petticoat out of an embroidered cotton Target curtain! I made the hat too, to resemble one in The Duchess.
